Fritz Perls said that behind trouble in sleeping there is a problem that wants to be resolved. That statement is far from what the state of sleep research is showing us today. Sleep medicine offers mostly devices and medication for better sleep. Yet, there is so much one can do before submitting to sleeping pills. In fact, it seems the story goes much further. Therefore, we have developed a more integrative approach and called it Sleep Coaching. This approach is developed based on Gestalt Therapy theory, integrating it with CBT, including sleep training, sleep education, and relaxation techniques including hypnosis, and dream work.
Gestalt therapy offers so much for working with sleep issues. To mention some:
• Understanding the sleep problem in the context of the non-sleeper’s personal history & social environment • Identifying potential self-sabotage attitudes and behavior regarding sleep
• Using creative arts as an aid to understanding the sleep problem as an expression of the problematic sleeper • Contemplation and meditation for the moments of sleeplessness
• Making sleep choices – from helplessness to creative adjustment
• Looking forward to your dreams & dream work for sleep.
